Prank Pulling

Happy Fool's Day! Anyone planning on prank pulling?

Yesterday a strange and sort of funny thing happened. For the past several months, Sue has been dancing with a studio/woman in town, and finally yesterday, Sue decided it was time to move on. The atmosphere and rigor are not as they were in DC. She spent some time crafting a kind, lucid email, explaining her reasoning, and essentially resigned from dance, as well as giving up two near-term performance opportunities.

This has been hard for Sue. It's actually been one of the toughest parts of the transition to Providence. She really loved dancing through grad school in DC, met great women through the studio, got experience performing, and she learned a huge amount along the way about the art and about herself - improving markedly over the course of her four years in DC. She was dancing three days-per-week in those days, and now she only dances on Mondays. She's been feeling like her technique and skill are slipping away, and it feels like a real loss. Sue has been mulling new hobbies, and finally, yesterday she decided it was time to try something else.

So Sue sent off this email, and her teacher wrote back saying essentially, "No. That makes no sense. Call me." And when they talked, her teacher rejected her resignation saying more performance opportunities were coming up. I don't know why I found that giggle-making. Sue's response was a mix of surprise and confusion.

I read it as a compliment, that the teacher thinks Sue is a good dancer (probably one of the better dancers in the city) and thinks she should continue to pursue training and performance. I guess we'll see where this goes. The woman has decided she's not done with Sue yet, and maybe that's for the best?
