Competing Opinions

We saw David Sedaris last night at the PPAC. It's a very nice venue - nicer than we imagined on the inside, and Sedaris was a hoot. He did a bunch of readings and recommended a couple other authors and works, then he took a few questions from the audience. It was sponsored by WRNI.

Tonight, after I get back from volunteering, we'll meet with our painting contractor to finalize our contract. On top of painting, he's going to fix our front and back gutters, and install flashing on the screened porch. We had a big storm yesterday, and the grading we did over the weekend worked well, except in a couple spots in the front (exactly where we wanted it to work best). It didn't work so well there, because the gutter needs to be rehung. Water is flowing behind the gutter and against the face board, then puddling up below.

In any event, now it's time to decide what color(s) to paint the house. We're sort of at a loss. We could go with something very bland (beige with white trim, or something) and be confident it would look okay, but we're hoping to make it look very nice since A) it's an expensive process, B) it'll last (hopefully) quite a while, and C) a good color scheme will help us sell it in the event we're moving in 2011.

We tried out some browns this weekend...

...so we've got some brown/tan and gray/silver to consider.

Our neighbors shared competing opinions. It's sort of not fair, since the old orange is showing through the chocolate-y brown.

We're meeting with a color consultant tomorrow. Hopefully he'll be able to assist us. I had a dream this morning in which a color consultant came to the house and recommended yellow. He told us it would "go off like a shooting star."

I always like yellow houses...anything from gold to cream. They're always so cheerful and sunny. Go with your dream :)

That's awesome you got to see David Sedaris. I also like how you anticipated PPAC would be kind of crappy on the inside. Your expectations have clearly come into line with Rhode Island standards. Hahaha.

We'll see what Hank the colorist says tonight (if the weather stays dry). I've heard that yellow houses sell faster, so maybe that's the ticket?

About the PPAC, yeah, perhaps that's part of Rhode Island's charm: your expectations fall so low that you are often surprised by the nicer things it's got. Ha!
