Ocean State Anniversary

Today, friends, is the final day of Year One in Providence. That's right, tomorrow is our Ocean State anniversary! It's pretty hard to believe, because we're still sort of getting settled here, but we moved from DC on Friday the 13th of June 2008. Crazy.

Seems like a perfect time to review our list of 2009 house projects. Remember that green = progress. We've had a very productive spring. Note that on March 10th (click the preceding link) we'd achieved almost none of this. Also note that we've added four new items at the bottom, and at least 16, 17 and 18 will not be completed this year. We'll see if we're going to stay in Providence before determining whether or not to tackle that level of renovation.
  1. Paint upstairs interior
  2. Install front screen/glass door
  3. Fix dining room table
  4. Install light on side of house (contract)
  5. Grade land around house
  6. Install backyard fencing
  7. Replace front stoop (contract)
  8. Strip and finish front, side, back and garage doors
  9. Install porch door and stairs to backyard
  10. Paint exterior (contract)
  11. Remove doorbell switches and chime
  12. Plant creeping bushes in the backest part of the backyard
  13. Install attic pulldown
  14. Install additional storage space/flooring in attic
  15. Ceiling patching
  16. Redo/finish basement
  17. Redo kitchen
  18. Refinish/repair wood floors (contract)
  19. Repair master bedroom closet floor
  20. Repair gutters (contract)
  21. Install flashing on porch roof (contract)
  22. Replace upstairs bathroom fan (contract)
  23. Clean/paint radiators
  24. Redo porch floor
  25. Install side glass/screen door
  26. Replace upstairs bathroom sink
Unless it's raining (as it is again today and every day it seems like), Chris and I will be installing the backyard fence on Father's Day.

In other news, Sue and I will be attending her internship graduation party tonight. She still has two weeks left, but it should be a nice celebration for all the interns and their families.

I'm doing some event planning at work these days, setting up an Ivy League (plus Stanford and MIT) conference for corporate and foundation fundraisers here in Rhode Island in July, as well as writing a big year-end report for a donor to Brown.

We hope everyone is doing splendidly this Friday and that fruitful weekends await us all. Hugs and high fives!

PS
Oh man.  Take look at the unforgiving comments on this story: Rep. Kennedy decides to ‘step away’ for medical treatment. Ouch. I guess this post from April is continuing to make more and more sense. The state's government is a nightmare.
