Downstairs Upstairs

We have a holiday tomorrow, so this is my last post of the week. There'll be some good posts coming up next week though, since I'm going to make a mess in the basement this weekend.

Let's start way back at Floorplan Finally in July 2008. Here's the basement. The front of the house is to the right.

Here are the new concepts Jonathan put together for us.

When you boil it down, because of where the plumbing and mechanical stuff (our boiler, oil drum and hot water heater) are installed, unless we want to spend out the wahzoo to move all that stuff around, the only floorplan-related options really relate to the washer-dryer area and the hypothetical bathroom. The rest of the basement just needs to be opened up.

Step 1 was getting some direction on how to remodel it. Step 2 was moving the tools to the garage. Step 3 is moving a bunch of the stuff currently downstairs upstairs. Step 4 is opening it up, which amounts to removing the cedar closet, the bench and the wall between the bench and the oil drum. That's what I'll be doing this holiday weekend. I'll also be taking measurements and looking into flooring options.

PS
The answer to ProPil Pop Quiz #9 is approximately 40 to 50 minutes per post, which translates over 250 posts to...

10,000 to 12,500 minutes or...

167 to 208 hours...

21 to 26 eight-hour work days...

or about one month of work days over the course of the last year.

PPS
Happy birthday, Julie!
