Drywall Install

Happy Tuesday, everyone! We spent the weekend in a state of motion. We got a huge (*huge*) amount done, but several big tasks are yet to be completed.

Sue painted the yellow room a lighter shade of yellow - eggnog, in fact. It looks great. I've neglected to put a picture up, because the iPhone registers the eggnog as white. Forgive me. Forgive the iPhone. For those that have been here - you probably remember the semi-gloss yellow (*yellow*) that was in there before? This will jog your memory.

Well, it's more sane now.

Here are a couple pics of our drywall install in the basement. Actually, we used greenboard because it's somewhat moisture resistant. It costs $9 bucks for a 4by8 sheet, whereas regular drywall costs $6. Drew was a big help.

You can see we also installed the door. The really slow part was/is the "mudding" or applying the joint compound - so you can't see the seams between the sheets once the walls are painted. You want those to be super smooth.

The very first instruction in our DIY book says, "The secret to finishing wall and corner joints successfully is to work patiently." Patiently?! I want the basement done! Patiently?! Patience is just a word people say.

Anyway, you have to apply three thin coats of joint compound, and you have to let each one dry for 24 hours - or about 10 hours with my dehumidifier on full blast. Hee hee. So now I've got to go downstairs and apply the last one.

PS
We did a bunch more stuff, like procuring all the raw materials for the basement work (Friday evening), installing a good part of the flooring, preparing the basement baseboards for installation, and painting all the moulding and woodwork in the upstairs landing, staircase, foyer and side entry, picking colors for those stairwell hallways. Whew. We'll highlight that work tomorrow and Thursday.
