Primordial Mounds

I know. I know. I know what they look like. In fact, they are primordial mounds. We'll see if they turn into the edible maitake mushrooms as expected.

PS
I'll keep adding pictures as they progress.

You can see the little bumps. Those nodes, if I keep the humidity right and the temperature stays below 70, will grow out in to "leaves". The chopsticks are used to keep the plastic humidity bag off the primordial mounds.

Update: 11/6/08

They survived for a while, but something about our house was not to be liked. Maybe the humidity, maybe the temperature. Maitake go bye-bye. Boo hoo.
